Synthesis of sugar-grafted thermosensitive polymer

Abstract

We have previously reported the construction of oligosaccharides 1-8 having a polymerizable group at the reducing end by using chitinaseA1 (Bacillus circulons WL-12) as a catalyst. In this study, we demonstrated the synthesis of sugar-grafted thermosensitive polymer by using N-isopropylacrylamide and compound 1. The resulting polymers show remarkable dissolution-agglutination changes in aqueous media by response of temperature changes. The polymerizations by using other monomers are under investigation and the results will be discussed.
