Synthesis of C3N4 and graphite by reacting cyanuric chloride with calcium cyanamide

    Carbon nitride with a close stoichiometry to C3N4 was prepared by the reaction of cyanuric chloride with calcium cyanamide at 500 to 550°C. The reaction temperature had a significant effect on the formation of crystalline carbon nitride. Thermogravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis studies showed a pronounced weight loss in the temperature range of about 550 to 700°C.
