Synthesis and scintillation properties of Ce-doped CaZrO3 single crystals

Undoped and Ce-doped CaZrO3 single crystals were synthesized by the floating zone method equipped with four xenon arc lamps, and their optical and scintillation properties were evaluated. The synthesized single crystals show high transmittance at a wavelength longer than 400 nm. The excitation and emission spectra of undoped CaZrO3 single crystal excited by vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) light show emission peaks at around 340 and 600 nm. The X-ray-induced scintillation spectra of Ce-doped CaZrO3 single crystals exhibit a red-shift of the emission peak and concentration quenching with an increase in Ce concentration. The afterglow levels of Ce-doped CaZrO3 are lower than those of Ce-doped CaHfO3 crystals.
