Synthesis and raman characterization of Hg1-xPbxBa2-ySryCa 2Cu3Oz superconductors

    Abstract

    Hg1-xPbxBa2-ySryCa 2Cu3Oz superconductors with x=0.0-0.5 and y=0.0-2.0 were prepared by ampoule method using spray dried precursor prepared by thermal decomposition under dynamic vacuum. We found that impurities were effectively suppressed by appropriate substitution of Hg by Pb. Optimally doped samples with x=0.3 show Tc=130K without additional oxygen treatment. The substitution of Ba for Sr (x=1.5-2.0) improved chemical stability of the precursor allowing its processing without a glove box. Bulk samples with optimal composition (x=0.3 and y=1.5) performed Tc=124K and Jc=2000 A/cm2 (77K, 10Oe). Raman scattering was studied on the crystalline grains of as-prepared as well as O2 and N2 annealed (Hg,Pb)-1223 samples. In zz-polarized Raman spectra strong modes at 498 and 520 cm-1 were found.
