Synthesis, and electrical conducting and magnetic properties of a neutral bis(dimethylthiotetrathiafulvalenyldithiolate)copper complex

Abstract

A neutral copper complex (1) substituted with two TTF dithiolate ligands was successfully synthesized by the iodine oxidation of the corresponding monoanionic complex (2) obtained by the reaction of bis(tetramethylammonium) bis(2,3-dimethylthiotetrathiafulvalene-6,7-dithiolato)zinc complex (3) with CuCl2. The complex 1 showed a high electrical conductivity (7.8 × 10-2 S•cm-1) on the compressed pellet at room temperature. On the other hand, a very low value (1.0 × 10-6 S•cm-1) was obtained for 2. The ESR and SQUID measurements suggest significant interaction between the copper d spin and conducting TTF π electron in 1.
