Abstract
In this study, AxBAx-type block-graft copolymers with controlled length of graft and main chains were synthesized by ruthenium-catalyzed living radical polymerization. The polymerization of dodecyl methacrylate (DMA) was carried out with a bifunctional initiator 1 having two C-Cl in the presence of Ru(Ind)Cl(PPh3)2, followed by the addition of 2 to afford the ABA triblock copolymer (I in Scheme 1). The C-Br bonds were then introduced into the A-segments to give the multi-functional macro-initiator II. The Ru-catalyzed graft copolymerization from II gave the AxBAx-type block-graft copolymer III with controlled length of both the backbone and the graft chains.
