Surface preparation and spin-resolved photoemission of epitaxial MnSb(0001) films on GaAs(111)

Abstract

Surfaces of ferromagnetic MnSb(0001) films, grown ex situ and re-prepared by conventional surface preparation methods, were characterized by low-energy electron diffraction, core-level X-ray photoemission, and spin-resolved valence-band photoemission. Exchange splittings of Mn3d-Sb5p bonding and Mn3d non-bonding states from spin-resolved spectra and from ab initio bandstructure calculations are compared. It is concluded that effects of electron correlation on this system are rather weak.
