Supramolecular liquid-crystalline materials formed by hydrogen-bonded assembly processes

Abstract

A class of mesomorphic materials, anisotropic liquid crystalline gels, which are prepared by the self-assembly of hydrogen-bonded molecules in liquid crystals, is discussed. These materials are composites with self-organized and phase-separated structures of liquid crystals and fibrous solids dispersed in the anisotropic media. The design of hydrogen-bonded assembly for mesomorphic materials were studied which showed homogeneous and heterogeneous structures.
