Abstract
Sulfur partitions of slags with a molar ratio of 3/2, 1/1, 2/3, and 1/3 have been measured at 1 250 degree C and 1 350 degree C. Sulfide capacities were in the range 10** minus **2 to 10** minus **4. Sulfur partitions of Na//2O EN DASH CaO EN DASH SiO//2 melts at a constant silica content were also measured at 1250 degree C. The effect of lime was compared with that of Na//2O. The iron observed in the slag phase after equilibration and the ratio of sulfur as FeS against the total sulfur was maximum at the composition with a Na//2O/SiO//2 molar ratio of 0. 9. Desulfurization and dephosphorization by sodium vapor were investigated at 1300 degree C.
