Abstract
Demagging was tried using ZnCl//2 dissolved in a NaCl-KCl eutectic salt bath as a substitute for AlCl//3 and AlF//3. Separation of Zn and Al and electrolysis of MgCl//2 are required to extract Zn, Al, Mg and Cl//2 gas. This chlorination reaction results in transfer of Mg from Al scrap to the salt bath without loss of Al or AlCl//3 and Cl//2 emission and MgCl//2 generation.
