Abstract
This paper deals with water hammers in coarse solid-liquid two-phase flow in a pipe. The pressure wave velocity decreased with increasing solid concentration because pressure wave propagationi was obstructed by solid particles in the pipe. On the other hand, maximum surge pressure increased as solid concentration increased. This result is due to the increase of the momentum of mixture with the increase of solid concentration. Theoretical analysis was performed for pressure wave velocity and maximum surge pressure. It was found that calculated values were in good agreement with the experiments.
