Study on stress controlling flow pathways in HDR/HWR geothermal reservoirs

Abstract

In this paper, we present a procedure to estimate overall flow pathways in a fractured reservoir. The procedure is based on an idea that the permeability of fractures critically stressed for frictional sliding is much higher than that of the other fractures in a current stress field. We apply the procedure to estimate flow pathways in the Ogachi HDR test site. Results show that the estimated flow directions are consistent with overall alignments of locations of micro-seismic events observed during massive hydraulic fracturing tests.
