Abstract

This paper describes the reduction of wheel wear in the high efficiency grinding of cermet (Ti(C, N) alloy). This material is suitable for such cutting tools as throw away tips. Its grindability, however, being extremely hard, makes tool manufacturing a serious problem. In this report, a creep feed grinding with a hybrid bond diamond wheel (HB wheel) was tested as a high efficiency grinding method and the fundamental wheel wear properties were investigated.
