Study on damage accumulation in LiAlO2 single crystal irradiated with deuterium and helium ions by ion-channeling

Abstract

Damage accumulation and thermal recovery in an LiAlO2 single crystal irradiated with 10keVD2+ or 10keVHe+ were investigated by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry in channeling geometry. The dependence of the increase in the amount of disorder on the fluence was stepwise in the same manner in the cases of both D and He irradiation; however, the disorder induced by D irradiation extended beyond the depth region where the damage induced by He irradiation was observed. During isochronal annealing, the annealing in the disorder induced by D irradiation and the release of the D retained in LiAlO2 occurred in the same temperature range. It was found that the disorder induced by D irradiation recovered at an apparently higher temperature than that induced by He irradiation.
