Structural relaxation in Ge-Cr-Al-Nd amorphous alloy

The process of structural relaxation in the Ge70Cr16Al10Nd4 alloy was studied by differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction. The resultant coordination numbers for the first and second peaks in as-solidified state are 2.8 at 0.258 nm and 4.4 at 0.310 nm, respectively. The corresponding coordination numbers for the heat-treated sample are 3.3 at 0.250 nm and 2.9 at 0.308 nm, respectively. The ratio between the second and the first nearest neighbor distances of 1.64 is almost identical with the value of 1.63 for a-Ge and c-Ge.
