Striking effects of magnetic field on the growth morphology of electrochemical deposits

Abstract

The growth morphology of electrochemical deposits of zinc and polypyrrole is investigated in strong magnetic fields of up to 8 T in order to develop a new processing method of "morphology tailoring". The electrolysis was performed in a thin-layer solution within a large-bore superconducting magnet. The magnetic field was found to bring about drastic changes in the growth morphology through the magnetohydrodynamic effect and the diamagnetic effect.
