Abstract
New orthorhombic phases in (Ho1−xLax)4Al2O9 and (Y1−xLax)4Al2O9 systems have been synthesized by reaction sintering at 1600°C for 30 h in air and have been metastably retained to room temperature. Stress‐induced phase transformation from the orthorhombic phase to the monoclinic phase occurred in both systems. This phase transformation was accompanied by a 0.5% volume increase.
