Stress-induced pyroelectric properties of devitrified fused quartz in elevated temperature

Abstract

We observed a cyclic oscillation of the electromotive force (emf) for a devitrified fused quartz in the specific temperature region between 917 and 1429 K and frequency range between 2 and 7.5 MHz. The oscillation is composed of low temperature-small and high temperature-large elements. These could be due to the tertiary and the secondary pyroelectric effects, respectively, derived from a lone-pair electron configuration of O2- at the tetrahedron corners of the β2-tridymite phase. The ultrasonic frequency causes a cyclic change of emf difference, based on a stress-induced pyroelectricity.
