Strength, toughness and microstructural factors in Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al alloy

Abstract

The relationships among the microstructural parameters, strength, and fracture toughness were quantitatively investigated on the Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al alloy. The yield strength of the Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al alloy can be explained using Orowan's equation modified by Ashby where dislocation movement is controlled by the precipitated α. Fracture toughness is strongly dependent on the radius, length, and volume fraction of the precipitated α. Tearing modulus is strongly dependent on the nearest neighbor's distance and weakly dependent on the volume fraction of the precipitated α and the β grain size.
