    Abstract

Large investments in habitat and roe enhancement and in reseeding to rebuild sea urchin stocks seem to have prevented a decline in the fishery production in Japan. However, the effectiveness of these means of enhancement is still not apparent at prefectural and national levels. Ecological and genetic evaluation of sea urchin populations leading to enhancement means that are appropriate for the warmer future is needed.
