Squeezing of a one-dimensional phonon in a halogen-bridged mixed-valence metal complex

Abstract

The generation of the squeezed phonons associated with one-dimensional excitons in a mixed-valence metal complex [Pt(en)2][Pt(en)2Br2](ClO4)2(Pt-Br) is examined. The study is the first observation of the vibrational squeezing of the Franck-Condon transition states in condensed matter. The time dependence of the transmissivity change measured at the excitation power density of 3×1016 photons/cm2 with positively chirped 60-fs pulses is presented.
