Splitting of isovector giant quadrupole resonance

The isovector giant quadrupole resonance systematically observed by inelastic electron scattering is studied using a schematic model. Analytic expressions are given for the isovector quadrupole excitation strengths. These expressions are used to estimate the energy splitting of the two isospin components and their strengths.
