Abstract
An attempt was made to follow the evolution of spinodal decomposition during its early stage in the hydrogel of N-isopropylacrylamide. The phase separation of the gel induced by a stepwise change in temperature was analysed using a light scattering method. Experimental results were compared with the Cahn-Hilliard theory for spinodal decomposition. Agreement between the experimental data and the theory verified the occurrence of spinodal decomposition in this system.
