Specific heat of La (Os1 - x Rux)4 Sb12

We have grown single crystals of filled skutterudites La (Os1 - x Rux)4 Sb12 and unfilled skutterudites RhSb3 and IrSb3. We measured their specific heat to investigate the rattling motion of rare earth ions in the oversized Sb-cage. To evaluate the contribution of the La motion to the specific heat (Δ C), we subtracted the specific heat of RhSb3 or IrSb3 from that of La (Os1 - x Rux)4 Sb12. ΔC has a shoulder structure around 15 K and is well fitted by the Einstein model. Einstein temperature obtained from the fitting increases with increasing Ru-content x, whereas the number of Einstein oscillators decreases with x.
