Soliton Amplification and Transmission with Er3+-Doped Fibre Repeater Pumped by GaInAsP Laser Diode

Abstract

Optical solitons in 1·5μm dispersion-shifted optical fibres have been successfully amplified and transmitted over SOSO km with an Er3+-doped single-mode fibre repeater. The Er repeater was pumped by a GaInAsP Fabry-Perot-type, high-power laser diode, and a gain as high as 10dB was obtained in the soliton power regime for an Er pump power of 50mW.
