Soft X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) has been measured for ferromagnetic uranium monochalcogenides UX C (X c = S, Se and Te) and UFe 2. By applying the orbital and spin sum rules to the XMCD results, some trend has been found for the relationship between the ratio μ ls and the total magnetic moment.
