Abstract
Functionally gradient materials (FGMs) are under development as super heat-resisting materials for continuous service under high temperature and severe envinonments. Small punch tests were carried out to evaluate basic material properties from room temperature(293K) to high temperature(1873K). Three point bending tests were correlated with mechanical properties determined by the SP test. Fracture toughness tests were compared with SP results. Acoustic emission tests were also performed. The materials used were CVD SiC/C, PSZ fabricated by a powder metallurgical process, SiC, PSZ, Al2O3 and Si3N4 for comparison.
