Using chromium oxide (CrO3) as an oxidant, the perovskite (CaTiO3) structure compound with Sr2+ was the prepared by the SHS-densification method. The density, microhardness and synthesis mechanism of the reaction products are investigated by X-ray diffraction, hardometer, densitometer and scanning electron microscopy. The primary results show that the SHS reaction temperature will increase when CrO3 is used as an oxidant, leading to the formation of Sr2+-CaTiO3 compound with higher density and the content of SrO can reach 35% in mass, so that the SHS method can be used to immobilize the radioactive waste (RAW) effectively.
