Self-excited vibrations occurring in collapsible tubes (Analysis of lumped parameter model)

Abstract

In this paper self-excited vibrations occurring in collapsible tubes are investigated on the basis of a lumped parameter model with 4th order. In the previous paper, the static characteristic of the tube was approximated by a function, but this approximation was not accurate. Here, we calculate the static characteristics by means of two dimensional bicubic spline interpolation, and solve governing equations numerically. It is shown that the instability region obtained theoretically by 4th order model almost coincides with that of the simplified model in the previous paper. Furthermore, it is shown that of two frequency modes calculated from the characteristic equation, the high frequency mode becomes unstable and the low frequency mode is always stable locally. But globally these two modes are self-excited under a certain condition. (English summary)
