N2 - A Satellite Multi-access Closed Network (MAC-Net), part of NTT's Satellite Digital Communications Service (SDCS), is presented. Differing from conventional digital satellite communications systems offering point-to-point digital transmission links, the SDCS provides time division multiple access (TDMA) channel to a designated user group. In doing so, it employs signaling bits to control TDMA bursts in the ON/OFF mode. This new SDCS channel assignment scheme is currently being used to provide the MAC-Net. This paper outlines the SDCS and related earth station equipment, as well as interface conditions between subscribers and the SDCS system.
