Residual stress distribution in electron beam-physical vapor deposited ZrO2 thermal barrier coating layer was investigated by Raman spectroscopy. The coated material was cut and embedded in epoxy resin to obtain a flat polished surface for Raman spectroscopic measurement. Results showed that the maximum compressive stress existed near the bond coat and the stress was less with separation from the bond coat.
