Research progresses of powder injection molding for titanium alloys

With low density, high specific strength, favorable biocompatibility and outstanding oxidation and corrosion resistance, Ti and its alloys have shown tremendous application foreground in the field of aerospace, automobile, national defense, medicine and cosmetics, etc. Titanium products with complex shapes can be produced by powder injection molding at low cost, which makes the technique contributed to the material productive development and application. In this paper, the main characteristics and advantages of titanium alloys fabricated by powder injection molding were briefly introduced. The recent research progresses and application of the PIM-Ti alloys were reviewed, especially in terms of powder preparation, binder, injection molding process and material properties. Finally, in view of the existing problems for their application, the further development emphasis and research direction of PIMed Ti-alloys were analyzed.
