The grain shape change of austenite in steel 45 during forging and post-forging retention was studied. The results show that when forging temperature is higher than 900°C, the dynamic recrystallization is finished at the end of forging deformation and the grain growth is observed only during the post-forging retention. When forging temperature is lower than 850°C, austenite is in workhardening state and is accompanied with proeutectoid ferrite at grain boundary.
