Abstract
To control refractive indices of polymer for optical waveguides, TiO 2 nanoparticles were introduced to transparent epoxy resin. The surface of TiO 2 nanoparticles was treated by silane coupling agent: 2-(3,4-epoxycyclohexyl)ethyltrimethoxysilane. After mixing the surface-treated TiO 2 nanoparticles with diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A, the epoxy groups were crosslinked with the phthalic anhydride. SEM images suggested that TiO 2 nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed in the polymer matrix. Refractive index of nanocomposites was linearly increased with an increase in TiO 2 nanoparticles content. Refractive index of obtained nanocomposites went up to 1.77.
