Abstract
The adsorption geometry of metallofullerene Sc2C84 on the Ag(111)1×1 surface has been studied by using the scanning tunneling microscope (STM). The STM results show that the Sc2C84 forms several phases with hexagonal packing and all of them have almost the same nearest-neighbor distance as that of the (4×4) reconstruction after annealing at approximately 350°C. The present results provide direct observation of the interaction of a metallofullerene film with a noble-metal surface.
