Abstract

The present state of plasma metallurgy and melting were presented on the basis of research findings reported to date. Conceivable trends of research and development in the future will be: the reduction of manufacturing costs by increasing equipment sizes and improving working efficiencies, and the development of the processes which can be achieved only by use of thermal plasma. Thermal plasma may find its major use in the production of materials with high-added values. For this purpose, it is imperative to conduct a wide range of studies, from basic studies to application.
