Abstract
This paper presents theory and experiments on the estimation of velocity profiles in unsteady pipe flows from the measurement by a hot film velocimeter. A signal process model was formulated for the measurement and apply Kalman filtering techniques were applied to the signal model. The filter derived was implemented on a personal computer and executed in real time yielding successful estimation of the velocity profiles on a CRT display. This method of measuring unsteady flows provides an effective means to construct a computerized flowmeter with high dynamic accuracy.
