Re-refinement of the basic decagonal Al-Co-Ni phase

Abstract

Structure refinements of two basic decagonal Al-Co-Ni quasicrystals have been performed using synchrotron radiation data. The refined structures of d-Al72Co8Ni20and d-Al70.6Co6.7Ni22.7are virtually identical. They have a small number of partially occupied atomic sites and are well chemically ordered in terms of Al and transition metals.
