Abstract
As a tool for detecting pro-Leu-enkephalins related to α-neo-endorphin and dynorphin in their purification steps from tissue extracts, we have developed a highly sensitive radioimmunoassay for [Arg6]-Leu-enkephalin, which is involved as a common N-terminal hexapeptide both in α-neo-endorphin and dynorphin. By utilizing this radioimmunoassay, we have purified from acid extracts of porcine pituitaries an immunoreactive peptide to the homogeneity, which has been identified as Tyr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Leu-Arg ([Arg6]-Leu-enkephalin).
