Abstract
[60]fullerene is irradiated in the presence of several electron transfer photosensitizers. Upon addition of various H-donors 1-substituted 1,2-dihydro-[60]fullerenes are formed. Mechanistic studies using laser flash photolysis as well as ESR spectroscopy reveal the formation of the radical cation of [60]fullerene. In addition the [2 + 2]photoreactions of 4-methyl-1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-dione (NMTAD) with [60]fullerene derivatives are reported.
