Abstract
Optokinetic nystagmus (OKN) tests were performed in 50 normal adults in a quantitative assessment of the influence of aging on OKN. In OKN induced by linear acceleration, a statistically significant difference was noted in slow phase velocity only between the 30-59 year old group and the 70-79 year old group, when the stimulus velocity was over 60°/s. There was no significant difference in fast phase velocity among the age groups. In OKN induced by step inputs, we found no statistically significant influence of aging on slow phase velosity.
