Abstract

Elastic constants (C//1//1-C//1//2)/2, C//4//4, C//1//1 of NaCl doped OH** minus ions measured with ultrasonic method reveal pronounced softenings below 50 K and show minimum near 0. 8 K. These anomalous temperature dependences of elastic constants are accounted for the response of the quadrupolar moment of OH** minus tunneling excitation in host NaCl lattice.
