Proton energy spectra in the nonmesonic weak decay of Λ12C and Λ28Si hypernuclei

The number of protons per hypernuclear weak decay were measured as a function of proton energy above 40 MeV. The ratios between the neutron-stimulated to proton-stimulated nonmesonic decay widths were extracted by fitting the proton energy spectra. The results showed that proton yields were suppressed and the ratios were close to 1 for both 12 C and 28 Si nuclei in contradiction to theoretical observations based on meson exchange models.
