Production of NbAl3 powders through sodium reduction of oxides in molten salts

Abstract

Na2NbAlO5 was synthesized using Nb2O 5 and NaAlO2 as raw materials in molten NaCl-CaCl 2 by a solid reaction. With an addition of sodium into the melts, Na2NbAlO5 was subsequently reduced to form NbAl 3 intermetallic compound with a particle size of 50-300nm.
