Production of NbAl 3 powders through sodium reduction of oxides in molten salts

Abstract

Na 2NbAlO 5 was synthesized using Nb 2O 5 and NaAlO 2 as raw materials in molten NaCl-CaCl 2 by a solid reaction. With an addition of sodium into the melts, Na 2NbAlO 5 was subsequently reduced to form NbAl 3 intermetallic compound with a particle size of 50-300nm.
