Production of lactic acid from glucose with CuO as a catalyst under hydrothermal conditions

Abstract

In this paper, CuO was selected as a catalyst in the production of lactic acid from glucose under alkaline hydrothermal conditions. The addition of CuO can improve the yield of lactic acid efficiently. The highest yield of 37% was obtained under the optimum conditions, i.e., reaction temperature 300 C, reaction time 60 s, CuO 0.3 mmol and NaOH 2.5 M. An efficient method for producing lactic acid from glucose under hydrothermal conditions with CuO as a catalyst has been improved.
