Problems of generating polygons of buildings from digital mapping data

This paper deals with problems happening when polygons of buildings are generated from digital mapping data. First of all, the reason why data of position and shape concerning buildings must be polygons are explained especially in the field of urban planning. Next the specification of digital mapping data are discussed in terms of generating polygons of buildings. Then problems happening are classified into 5 categories: 1)Violation of rules for making data. 2)Breaks of connections of lines. 3)Division by mapping unit. 4)Parts which is different in type from the other part of building. 5)Mixtures of other 4 types of problems. Finally solutions are proposed for each problem.
