Present state in research and the development trend in industrialization of PIM W-Cu composites

Abstract

A comprehensive survey was made with regard to the applications and recent preparation method (powder injection molding) of W-Cu composites with high thermal conductivity with the emphasis on the recent research results of Jin-Chun Kim, T.H. Kim and R.M. German et al. As a forming technology for near net shape parts, the powder injection molding (PIM) will certainly become one of important production routes of W-Cu composites due to its unique advantages. However the achievement of the industrialization of PIM for W-Cu composites still needs double efforts owing to its late start. The present state and the development trend of the industrialization for W-Cu composites are summarized and it is proposed that the powder metallurgy process is an important route for the industrialization of W-Cu composites in the days to come.
