Abstract

The rational design of coal gasification processes requires a sound understanding of fundamental reaction kinetics and the physical process of gas-solid contacts. The gasification process consists of the pyrolysis and gasification of char formed in situ. The dynamic change in the CO//2 gasification rate of six different chars and a graphite electrode with increased conversion can be expressed by means of the single relationship between the surface area and the porosity. Thus, the dynamic change in the rate can be predicted from the initial surface area and the initial porosity alone.
