Abstract

Using an X-ray microanalyzer (CMA), MnS precipitation behavior and the distribution of Ca oxide and sulfide were investigated. The amount of MnS measured did not have good correspondence with previously reported parameters to suppress MnS formation. In the slab of which the oxygen content was too high to expect the formation of CaS in molten steel, S was observed in or around the calcium aluminate and the amount of MnS decreased. The calcium aluminate in which S was highly enriched was mainly observed at the segregated interdendritic region. The desulfurization reaction by calcium-aluminate occurs easily with solidification.
